My first engagement shoot with Justin and Roshini! It was a great learning experience and fun too! I was fortunate to borrow the 35mm f/1.8 from my friend John, a great lens for shooting indoors. We shot at the Royal Ontario Museum on a Tuesday, so admission was free for students :D. The newest addition to the ROM provided some great shooting spots with new architecture with large windows providing great lighting at midday. The exhibits provided some great backgrounds and colours and made for some fun shots. We ended our shoot outside, found a nice spot near UofT. Overall it was a great experience, I learned a lot from this hands-on experience, and I’ve got plenty to learn! I’d like to thank Claudia Hung for showing me the ropes, I attribute most of what I know about shooting engagements to her, I’d also like to thank my girlfriend Sharon for her support that day. If you’re looking for a photographer that’s still experimenting, e-mail me, but if you want a seasoned pro, contact Claudia Hung.

Help- Portrait 2011.
A month or 2 ago, my friend John invited me to be a volunteer at this event, Help-Portrait. I was interested, and excited to see and help out. It was a great event where talented photographers/hair and makeup artists came together and connected with the community. The photographers provided people and families with portraits as they talked and made friends. It was fun filled experience where we could see the joy that taking photos could bring to people! All the photographers were wonderful at connecting with the community and sharing their life experiences. I’m thankful for being a part of this event and look forward to next year!

Today was my first day shooting an engagement! Boy was it a lot to process. I was fortunate enough to be mentored by the very talented Claudia Hung, who took me under her wing and introduced me to the world of professional wedding photography. There’s a lot to know when choosing the right location and building a relationship with clients. These things need to match for a shoot to go well! Fortunately with a fun, affectionate couple, it made the shoot easy to do and learn :) Deon and Irini were a great couple for me to learn, and with some direction from Claudia, produced some great shots!

Trying my eye on something other than portraits. I did some photos for a house for sale. Had the opportunity to shoot this beautiful house, great big skylights and an open concept kitchen that opened into a living room. I wish I had a wider angle lens, or a full frame camera, I just couldn’t capture all I wanted in a cropped frame. O well, in time…

The annual CNE trip with my family, I go almost every year, even though it’s the same give or take a few interesting food items. Last year it was fried butter, this year - the Donut Burger. Krispy Kreme buns sandwiching meat and toppings. I op-ed for the healthier non-bacon and egg extra’s as I feared for my heart.
The burger was sold at Epic Burgers & Waffles, getting their name I believe from the youtube sensation ‘Epic Mealtime’ where they create some of the most “Epic” meals (consisting of bacon strips, meat, alcohol, sauuce, cheese, and bacon strips). I thought the burger was quite good, sweet and salty. The patty was thick and juicy. I was satisfied :).After some food the sun began to set. Perfect time to take some long exposure shots! Saw some of these shots of the London Eye at night and wanted to try my own. A second or two exposure created some pretty cool shots of the Ferris Wheel and Giant Swing.
To finish off the evening we got some gourmet lollipops at the crafts and hobby building played some games. Whats the CNE without its games? Since last year I got a regular brown Domo, I shopped around for a matching Pink one. Found it at a dart throwing balloon popping game. man was it hard, I popped 1 balloon with 8 darts, what a failure. O well, vendor gave me the Domo anyways so that was cool. It got late and all our feet ached, time to go home and rest up, a quick family shot and the night view of the pretty lights.

And so begins my blog. Didn’t think I’d start one, but here I am, a place on the internet where I’ll spend time other than Facebook. Let’s see how long this lasts.
cheers!
